We first met Kim & Jordan for their engagement session this August. Kim arrived before we started photographing their engagement session to have her makeup done with me. One thing I love about this is that by the time we have arrived at your engagement location to start capturing photos of the two of you I’ve already built up a connection which makes drawing out personality and emotion in your engagement photos so much easier.

Kim & Jordan knew they wanted a beach engagement session but weren’t sure which beach to choose between the overwhelming number of options in San Diego (not a horrible problem to have). We immediately recommended Del Mar Dog Beach. Del Mar Dog Beach makes for such a beautiful engagement session location, you have the texture of the rocky alcoves and cliff-sides. The color of the sunsets and golden light, the structure of the massive rocks and the movement of the ocean and its breeze it’s truly the perfect harmony of elements to create the atmosphere for a romantic engagement session.

We got to the beach just after six and captured photos until sunset. We just love how beautiful the images turned out, not only did mothernature bring it with an awe-inspiring sunset but Kim & Jordan were just so wrapped up in it. It can be hard for an engagement session because you aren’t on that same emotional high you will be on your wedding day, so things can feel a bit more in authentic. One thing I love to do to bring in a bit more authenticity is give an action or set the scene as if you were actors rather than giving a pose and this allows you two to just do what you would naturally, that was how a few of these photos were captured & we loved the results. We are so looking forward to photographing Kim & Jordan’s wedding & creating some magic all over again.
